“I wanna go see the waterfalls!” – basically me as soon as I landed in Croatia.

Ever since I Google-Image’d the waterfall national parks in Croatia, I knew I had to go. The clear blue water and luscious greenery surrounding felt like a whole different world. And it may have helped that I was coming from the severe California drought.

LOOKS LIKE A FREAKING OASIS, I KNOW

But anyways, I wanted to visit at least one of the two main ones (Plitvice and Krka) from day one. It was always in consideration, but kept getting pushed off because of weather or logistics but we FINALLY went during week 4 to Krka National Park(since Plitvice was just too far away…especially considering Croatian transporation).

We booked through a local travel agency a day trip package that included bus transportation to the park from downtown Split as well as a boat ride into the park. We had to buy our tickets separately, but it all added up to about 280kn, or about $40.

It was an extremely cloudy and damp morning, and I spent the entire way there hoping for the sun to come out. Our little bus took about 2 hours to trek up the coast to Sibenik and then into the park. There, we were dropped of in line for a boat, which would take us to the park entrance.

Needless to say, the park didn’t disappoint.

It was a little too cold to go in the water, though many people were. And to be honest, I’m not sure I would want to. The bottom was super rocky, and I watched countless people slip and fall as they tried to make their way…anywhere.

We settled for hiking around the path through the park, checking out all of the lookout points, taking a billion photos and videos, picnicking, and of course, getting coffee at the cafe before heading back to Split.

Compared to national parks in the US, Krka is pretty small. Even if you do want to both hike and go swimming and chill, you can easily do it in a day. We spent about 2 hours leisurely making our way around the park, and even in our short timeline (I think we ended up only with 4 or 5 hours in the park), we were able to do everything we wanted and still had time to chill and relax at a café.

There are also a couple museums/information centers to check out if you have more time.

If you’re into nature and wildlife, there are informative signs all around. The water is so clear you can see all the little fishies!!!!

Tl;dr: I couldn’t get over how clear and blue and beautiful the water is there, and it 100% lived up to Google Images expectations! I heart Krka so hard.
