the pie hole

to fill the hole in my heart

My love language is Pie Hole’s earl grey pie. No, seriously, for my birthday one year, my coworkers surprised me by covering my desk in slices of pie…

Over the years, Pie Hole has become a go-to stop for dessert. I’ve never been much of a pie person. I think growing up I had one too many soggy bottoms to fully appreciate the art of pie. But Pie Hole converted me. They might not be the prettiest pies out there, but they certainly win on taste. We now love pie, rustic, artisanal pie. Whether you’re a fruit pie kinda person or a creme pie kinda person, they’ve got you covered with the classics and coveted seasonal flavors.

There used to only be one location in Arts District, helping make Arts District a destination for those in the know. But now they’ve expanded to several locations around LA. Which means easier access to pie, a double edged sword. Also, the fact that they are open late is an extra treat, because who knew pie cravings would hit at 10pm? Apparently Pie Hole did.

good to know

Go here for: the essential LA pie you never knew you needed

Order this: earl grey pie, mexican chocolate, salted honey custard; also be sure to check out their seasonal options, matcha is a good choice, as is peppermint chocolate or cherry cardamom during the holidays

Amount of time to spend: ~30 min for a quick snack, or a pit stop by for pies to go

When to come: any time is a good time for pie (promise)

Parking:

  • Arts District: it’s in the popular part of Arts District, so good luck finding a meter.
  • Hollywood: after dinner time it’s actually not hard to find street parking in the area, but it’s pretty terrible during the day.
  • Pasadena: there are plenty of public lots that are pretty cheap if you can’t find a meter.
  • Glendale: it’s in the Americana so you can park in their structure, which is free for the first hour.

Other things to note:

  • They also have a couple locations in OC, as well as two locations in Tokyo (in Shinjuku and Ginza, both in department stores).
  • The Glendale location is at the Americana, a stand in the middle area, with some outdoor seating available.
  • The Pasadena location is in a shared space called India Colony, which also includes Intelligentsia, Wanderlust Creamery and Pressed Juicery.
  • Whole pies are limited, so it’s better to order ahead online.
