hotel praktik bakery

yes, that would be a bakery-themed hotel

Barcelona has the cutest boutique hotel scene. Praktik is a series of local hotels with locations all around Barcelona, each with a different theme. It probably comes at no surprise that I opted for their bakery hotel. Yes, a hotel whose theme is basically bread. Would you expect any less?

The bakery in question is Baluard. A quick Google search reveals that this isn’t just any old bakery, it’s one that is celebrated in leading the way for a new wave bread culture in the city, largely accepted as one of the best bakeries in the city. This place takes bread seriously, and serves up an impressive spread of breads and pastries every day in Barceloneta, and they decided to bring it to Eixample and build an entire hotel around it. If you fantasize about waking up to the smell of fresh bread, and just living in a place where it always smells like bread, this is the hotel for you.

The hotel itself is pretty small. The reception desk is tucked on the other side of the cash register, meaning you have to walk past their entire beautiful carb spread before you check in. Beyond that is a cute seating area to enjoy said bread. Upstairs, there are 74 guest rooms. The rooms are pretty compact, but feel comfortable with the clean white palette and blue tile bathrooms.

Praktik Bakery is just a block in from Passeig de Gràcia, a short walk away from Casa Milà. The central location makes it a great location for exploring the city and for shopping. It’s a double-edged sword though, while it makes it easy to grab a quick meal, it also makes it hard to be motivated to go out and eat anything else in the city. It also makes it really hard to be motivated to check out other cute hotels that idk, might not have an amazing bakery downstairs…

the hardest decision you'll be making in barca

good to know

Go here for: a carby breakfast, and/or a cozy place to stay just steps away from Passeig de Gràcia.

Order this: I mean, are you even living your best life if you’re not ordering one of everything? Jk, there’s too much to eat in this city, but don’t miss their killer sandwiches.

Amount of time to spend: 30 min for a quick breakfast or maybe a few days at the hotel?

When to come: mornings are better for more options, but there is a bit of a breakfast rush.

Parking: it’s about a 5 minute walk from Diagonal station (lines 3 and 5).

Other things to note:

  • You don’t have to be staying at the hotel to enjoy the bakery, it actually gets quite packed in the mornings as people grab breakfast before work.
  • If you venture over to Barceloneta, be sure to stop by the original Baluard location there. There is also a bakery location in Poblenou.
