cafe madang

surprisingly intimate name brand cafe

It seems in Seoul anything and everything can have a café. In Gangnam, even the international luxury brands have gotten into the game. Where Dior gives ostentatiously feminine banquet hall vibes, Hermès offers a more low key intimate setting for dining in a sophisticated luxury palace.

Tucked in the heart of a larger than life golden building, Cafe Madang is surprisingly understated. Warm wood tones and dim lighting make for a cozy environment even in mid-afternoon. While they serve meal entrees throughout the day (mostly “western” fare), there is a certain luxury that comes with sipping tea out of Hermes china and nibbling through a tiered snack set. Or perhaps an early dinner with drinks and maybe you leave with a little treat in the form of a leather good.

All hype aside, Cafe Madang is a special treat. It’s not everyday you get to dine in a luxury fashion house, and let’s be real, food is probably the most affordable thing you’ll ever get in these walls.
