chitchat

Chit or chat, it’ll look great on Instagram

For a long time, the only real coffee / study spot in Sawtelle was Coffee Tomo. Which, any Bruin can tell you, is always too crowded for it to be worth an exclusive trek to Sawtelle. But now there’s ChitChat, a little further up from the crazy busy part of the street, but still close enough for you to reward your hard work with a meal without having to re-park. And that’s about as much as we can ask for these days.

ChitChat clearly came to be in the age of Instagram. Even 5 years ago, it might have been designed differently. Perhaps with less pink. Perhaps with less velvet. Regardless, you got to admit they did a good job branding this place. It’s almost a little too perfectly curated. Almost too Instagram friendly. Just look at the pops of color on their Instagram page! But anyways, I should probably also mention that they do coffee and matcha, and they have creative specialty drinks that are worth a try. So thank you, ChitChat, for another solid choice in the crowded landscape of west side cafés!

good to know

Go here for: a lil chit chat with a friend, or a casual work session. You know, the kind where you don’t reallllyyy work but you look the part?

Order this: (oat milk) matcha latte ($5-6 depending on your milk choice), Coffee for Breakfast ($7) aka cereal infused milk in your coffee

Amount of time to spend: you could comfortably spend an hour or two here

When to come: it’s a hit or miss. weekends can get pretty busy. Weekday afternoons tend to be chill

Parking: is still hard but not as bad as other parts of Sawtelle. They have a couple spots in the adjacent mini garage, but you’ll probably be finding street parking. Try Beloit for all day free parking

Other things to note:

  • They have reliable wifi and some outlets. You definitely wouldn’t be the only one working.
  • Most people sitting inside are working, outside are chatting.
