uplifters kitchen

a cookie-forward daytime cafe in ocean park

Update: Uplifters Kitchen is permanently closed. For a nice all day option, try Superba on Lincoln.

Uplifter’s Kitchen is your friendly neighborhood cafe that always seems to have exactly what you need to set your day in the right direction. Namely, caffeine and carbs. But also packaged up in a cozy but sunny space that does in fact feel like an aspirational Santa Monica home kitchen. Uplifter’s Kitchen has been an established storefront in Ocean Park for years, but recently taken over by a new owner and all female staff who have taken a good thing and made it better (and in a pandemic no less). The café continues to serve up homey baked goods, but also has changed up the menu to incorporate more seasonal produce in the reimagined all day breakfast and lunch menu.

good to know

Go here for: a casual breakfast, a morning pastry haul

Order this: coffee of any kind, house-made pastries, and some cookies to go

Amount of time to spend: ~30 min, great for a stop by pick me up or a quick meal

When to come: mornings if you’re looking for a full selection of pastries

Parking: is usually not too bad, either metered parking on Ocean Park or limited street parking on the residential streets. If you’re just grabbing to go, you could probably also park in the lot for the park across the street, and do a lil picnic

Other things to note:

  • They have one hour free wifi and no outlets, so not ideal for working online.
  • Alternative milks include almond and oat.
  • They donate $1 to FEAST (supporting healthy food and nutrition education) for each sale of the chocolate pecan cookies.
