Elsa y Fred calls themselves a gastrobar. But the images that “gastrobar” conjures up for Americans doesn’t do it justice. It’s a cozy restaurant that is just as appropriate for a light breakfast as it is for a casual tapas dinner and everything in between. In terms of food, they serve all the classics, but also have seasonal specialties showcasing local produce in creative ways.
For breakfast, they have a generous selection of egg dishes as well as sandwiches and pastries to pair with coffee. For lunch, they have 15€ sets that include an appetizer, main, drink and dessert or coffee, or for 21€ you get a G+T. At all other hours they have artful tapas from patatas bravas to tuna tartar to cheese plates and desserts. Situated conveniently right by the Arc de Triomf, it makes for a good stop before heading over to Parc de la Ciutadella to walk off what you just ate.
