Glendale may feel like the suburbs, but you have to admit it’s convenient to have the greatest hits all within a stone’s throw from the Americana. But if you’re looking for something that isn’t a copy-paste from central LA, head over to Highlight Coffee. This precious spot opened up in 2016, in the corner of a historic 1920s hotel that has been converted into an apartment building. The space brings together modern design with the charm of original details, and the large windows bring in ample sunlight into the cozy space. The perfect hideaway from the crowds at the Americana, where you can get the quality of a Silver Lake cafe without dealing with the scene of a Silver Lake cafe.
Highlight serves a variety of coffee from small roasters and in addition to the standard espresso drinks also have house-made flavored lattes. The second location in Pasadena also has ample seating, making it two solid options for settling down for a leisurely cup while you’re deep east beyond the 5 and 210.
