Dong Men is a competitive market when it comes to food, so when there’s a newer ice shop to the neighborhood, you know it has to have a local stamp of approval to survive the tourist driven economy that centers the first block of the street. While most tourists stop at Smoothie House or Ice Monster, Jin Jin Dessert Shop is a few blocks deeper into Yong Kang Street. An inviting bright yellow store front, tucked right around the corner from the main street that evokes the appeal of a well-branded ice cream parlour.

Jin Jin is actually a second outpost of the popular Japanese-style dessert shop Jingimoo, located just a few blocks away on the other side of Xin Yi and Jin Shan Road. Jin Jin focuses on more traditional Taiwanese flavors but with the same show stopping presentation. A delectable choice of taro, osmanthus, milk tea, black sugar, mango and more piled high onto mountains of shaved ice and adorned with the jellies and starch balls you’d see in all Taiwanese ice shops. They have a selection of signature shaved ice, some decadent milk, jelly and tea-based beverages (aka all the good stuff but in cup form so you can take it on the go), as well as super cute “toast pops” that top a thick piece of milk bread with Japanese-inspired toppings like Kyoto matcha and red bean, skewered with a popsicle stick for easy eating.
