the bakery with dim sum and braised goods
Olympia bakery is an institution from another generation, an old school Taiwanese bakery still standing strong after seven decades. It has withstood the test of time perhaps because it has effectively carved out a unique niche in the bakery landscape. You see, in addition to the breads and cakes and giftable sweet pastries that are so abundant around Taiwan, Olympia has added to its repertoire some savory steamed and braised goods that draw in any Taiwanese.
So, in addition to filling your trays with individually packaged breads and buns, you can also self serve dumplings and egg tarts and braised tofu and soy egg and pork blood rice cake all in one go, which is particularly satisfying (let’s be real, these genres of food all hit different so it feels almost luxurious to be able to load up all in one place). They carry the classics like scallion buns and Taiwanese “macarons” and they keep up w the times too, recently adding cinnamon rolls to truly round out the Olympian line up they’ve got. Sure, you can find better bread elsewhere, better dim sum and certainly better braised food stands all over the place. But to have it all wrapped into one is just a good time.
