For well over a decade, Forage has been a go-to spot for east siders to grab a quick meal or pick up some food for home. It’s not the kind of place you seek out, definitely not a food destination like some of the other hyped restaurants in the area, but it serves the neighborhood as a staple, unfussy place for comfort food that is healthy and delicious and easy. It’s like a local shop version of the Whole Foods deli section, the family run version of Lemonade or Tender Greens.
It used to be in an understated small white building right on Sunset across from Sunset Junction, but has since moved deeper in, in an endearing standalone house on a blink-and-you-miss-it block of Rowena. It’s a neighborhood secret that everyone is in on, and if you know, you’ll have it in your rotation.
Forage is all about simple, sustainably-sourced food that changes with the seasons for the freshest ingredients to shine while reducing food waste. They offer a range of salads, sandwiches, and prepared dishes that you can piece together to create your perfect plate for lunch or dinner. They also have a spread of house made pastries and a daily special agua fresca (also house made) that is not to be slept on.

Amount of time to spend: it’s counter service, so usually around 30-45 minutes to order and eat, or 10-15 minutes for take out
