november

2022

November might be my favorite month in the city. The weather is crisp and temperate, but not too cold. There are many sunny days. It’s the beginning of coat season, when you can comfortably walk around with a hot coffee and savor the sights of the changing leaves, knowing that all too soon, we’ll be immersed into months of bare branches before the buds of spring reemerge.

Halloween is officially behind us, and it is the holiday season. There’s something in the air that just makes me want to go outside and buy things. Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the marketing, maybe it’s the fact that Black Friday has turned into a monthlong ordeal. Either way, I’m not mad at it.

nothing quite like a crisp fall walk around the city to breathe life back into me.

fall farmers market

seasons really come to life at a farmers market. warm fall colors, hearty fall herbs, delightfully wonky gourds, spiced cider, marigolds and thanksgiving table adornments

books & coffee

the start of cozy season means it is not too cold for walks around town hitting up a bunch of bookstores with a hot coffee in hand.

current obsessions

culture fix

like everyone else, white lotus season 2 had me in a chokehold. why is it so fun to hate watch rich people doing stupid rich people things?

thanksgiving, restaurant edition

Thanksgiving in the city is an interesting experience. The city is quiet, about as calm as you’ll ever see it. Shops lights off, grocery stores closing down by late afternoon, the streets and sidewalks quiet, just a few people heading to and from holiday activities food in tow. A lonely bright corner store glowing on an otherwise dark block. It’s brisk out but the cool air is a nice

I’m not sure what came over me, holiday anxiety, seasonal stress, exhaustion for planning. But I decided to do Thanksgiving at a restaurant this year. And I must say, it was an excellent decision. Highly recommend. From fancy restaurants to family-friendly homey spots, buffet style to coursed out meals, and countless different takes on Thanksgiving classics, there’s a surprising number of good options around the city. I went to Leuca in Williamsburg. In a quiet neighborhood, it was a warm haven, with a good number of well dressed families and friends eating and drinking in the cozy space. You know it’s a good meal when you’re full before the main course. But that’s the spirit of Thanksgiving isn’t it?

and then of course, after thanksgiving, comes the season of holiday shopping. the stores are getting dressed up, and my urge to step into every shop
