Every city that is nowhere near Texas deserves a solid Tex-Mex breakfast joint worth queuing up for on a Sunday morning. Breakfast tacos are the perfect breakfast food format. Doesn’t quite knock you out like a breakfast burrito would, is casual yet indulgent, and portable enough, depending on how careful you are with the salsa. La Tejana is this well-loved establishment for the DC community.
Run by a husband-wife duo, La Tejana is an ode to the Rio Grande. The menu is straightforward. Nine choices for breakfast tacos, with several that are veggie friendly. All on house made flour tortillas that do Texas proud. Coffee. Salsa. Made to order, wrapped up for the road. What more could you need?

Go here for: breakfast, even if it’s closer to lunch time
Order this: the 512, super migas, but truly you can’t go wrong with any of them
Amount of time to spend: ~30 minutes, the line is always moving, but everything is made to order so give yourself enough time to wait
When to come: earlier is better, as they sometimes run out of the popular ones
Getting here: about a 10 min walk from the Columbia Heights station (green), also plenty of street parking opportunities for those who drive
Other things to note: There isn’t indoor seating, so plan to take it to go. There is, however, a small park across the street with some benches and tables to enjoy your breakfast, weather permitting.
