午冬 5.TUNG

one word: napoleons

In a city filled with made-for-instagram cafes and well Google review rated eateries with long queues, a place like 5.TUNG is in good company. But given its tenure, and it’s somewhat off path location, it’s more than earned its place. Aesthetically, it fits the bill for a pretty Taipei cafe: minimalist, neutral tones, simple cozy furnishing, delicate decor. Hipster looking locals and blogger types with cameras in tow flock like moths to a light for the photogenic desserts and backdrop.

You’re coming here for the pretty desserts, specifically the napoleons, which come in half a dozen flavors, often featuring seasonal fruits. The pastry is perfectly flakey with crisp layers that hold up the decadent cream and perfectly sweet fruit. They also make a great “flan” (as in, the creamy Japanese style pudding). On the drinks side, there’s both tea and coffee, hot and cold, with and without milk. All together a casually indulgent afternoon tea, solo or shared, and an excellent place to bookmark for ordering pretty desserts for any occasion.
