// NEW YORK CITY // EAST WILLIAMSBURG //
pastries, sourdough, and other carb-forward dreams
Sometimes the best places are the ones with unassuming façades, scarce square footage and stingy hours. Nick + Son’s is the perfect neighborhood bakery, but also the kind that manages to attract people from beyond the neighborhood to descend upon a quiet block on the east side of Williamsburg on a weekend morning in that brief window of operating hours.
The shop itself is little more than a window, with the counter pushed up right by the door, and the indoor space filled with racks and tables full of fresh baked breads and pastries. Stepping up to the register immerses you in a warm envelope of buttery aromas. The pastries come out still warm, just asking to be devoured on the spot. And once they are out for the day, they are out. Some say scarcity sells, and in this case, it really does work.

Amount of time to spend: it’s take out only, but there is often a queue, so plan for at least 20 minutes depending on the wait
When to come: ideally before 10am, things sell out quickly, and while some more batches come out throughout the morning, it’s often on the early side
Getting here: about a 5 min walk from the Grand or Lorimer L stations.
Other things to note: Be sure to keep an eye on the sign outside that lists out which items are sold out, and which ones are coming at different times
