If there were a stereotypical coffee shop that every cool creative Brooklyn boy confidently calls his favorite, it is this one. Once called (Sweat)shop, the small but well established cafe now apparently is too cool to have an SEO friendly name. It’s the kind of place that says “vibes” in its instagram bio and a graphic text mural that shouts “Don’t Look For Love Look For Coffee” and feels like a relic of the 2010s, but we forgive it because, well, the vibes do hold up.
Despite its proximity to the hellish block that is Bedford and 4th, Shop somehow manages to still feel low key enough. It’s more often full than empty, but filled with people who more or less feel like Brooklyn locals, like they belong here, in this insufferable hipster “creative” community with strong opinions about their coffee. So you can trust the coffee is solid, the brekkie has that fresh yet filling Aussie cafe way. Add in a communal table and free wifi and it’s rounded out as a nice neighborhood Shop.
